New interns 2021 in the team
SIHMA has the pleasure to welcome three new members in the team, two remote interns from United States, April Noelle, Mary Cascarelli who started to collaborate from the 31st of May until the 23rd of July and an in person intern from Norway, Victoria Jensen, who joined the team from the 14th of June for six month. The interns will be engaged in research and communications, to fulfil SIHMA’s mission ‘to conduct and disseminate research that contributes to the understanding of human mobility and informs policies that ensure the rights and dignity of migrants, asylum seekers and refugees in Africa’[1].
April is extremely passionate about the rights of immigrants, emigrants, asylum seekers, and refugees. Her time spent working with refugees and asylum seekers in the United States sparked her interest to work with refugees in Africa and with SIHMA. She has joined SIHMA in the hopes of understanding what causes migration patterns throughout the continent and the issues it brings.
Mary is particularly interested in migration and refugee work and has worked with the Refugee Development Center in Lansing, MI. Her research focuses on the impact of policy making on the experiences of immigrants, specifically the policies implemented in the United States following 9/11. She also focuses on the mental health of refugee children and the ways in which art therapy can be used as an intervention.
Victoria has worked as a volunteer in a local community in Zimbabwe and she conducted field work for a research thesis about sexual violence against women in South Africa. Her objective is to use her education and experience to obtain a career within the field of humanitarian and human rights.
If you want to know more about April, Mary and Victoria, read our team page on the website [2]. SIHMA welcomes them in the team and look forward to have passionate and productive collaborations.
